Show Your Flair: Microsoft's Notebook Mouse 3000 Now Comes in 5 Colors

Microsoft's Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 has been around a while, but just like the Model T, it came in any color so long as it's black. Those days are over, as the 3000 now comes in five—dare I say fruity?—new colors. The lineup includes Pomegranate, Dragon Fruit, Aloe, Milk Chocolate, and Creme Brulee. Too bad they all taste like plastic. They have USB receivers that snap inside when not used, and they run for six months on one AA battery. They'll be $30 when they are released to Best Buy in May and everywhere else in June. [Microsoft]

PSP Firmware 3.95 Imminent

Sony has announced their firmware 3.95 update should be coming soon. It's a minor upgrade, only adding two small features to the platform...but one that I find completely necessary and long overdue. First, shutting off Remote Play will now no longer necessarily shut down your PS3. Second, and more importantly, PSOne classics can now be played with customizable button layouts. Retro ports on all platforms are notorious for wonky button mapping with little or no way to tweak. Good call, Sony. [kotaku]

El Luminoso Rug Uses Wool and LEDs to Bring the Galaxy to Your Floor

Designed by Esti Barnes, El Luminoso is a made-to-measure carpet that mixes LEDs into the pile. Given that the last rugs I writhed upon with gay abandon wrote about were the Wurst rugs, a selection of sausage-inspired floor coverings that looked like a pool of puke, Esti's design is bleedin' gawjus. No idea of the price, but expect it to be hefty, given that it's a commission-only piece. [Top Floor via MoCo Loco]

Touchscreen Satellite Phone Is as Beautiful as a Normal Cellphone

I could say that Mobile Satellite Ventures' touchscreen offering is nice for a satellite phone. But screw that, this thing just looks nice, period. The L-Series phone is .6 inches thick, slides up to reveal a 0-9 keypad, has Wi-Fi and also works on cellular bands. The strangely-familiar interface of the homescreen looks as nice as any smartphone, and has drawn comparisons to the the satellite phone used in LOST. Unfortunately, Desmond won't be tracking Penny down with this thing anytime soon, because MSV won't drop the phone until 2010, satellite service will only cover North America and it doesn't have a quick launch icon for the wonderful works of Mr. Charles Dickens. Seems like a waste to me, brotha.

Sprint's Samsung Instinct First Hands On and iPhone Sizemodo (UPDATED: Now with Full Tour Video)

Sprint's Instinct is so special the carrier is holding its own super special event. Unfortunately, it hasn't quite finished baking, so the full feature set wasn't entirely ready to go—we had to visit different "stations" to check out each feature individually to keep us from diving too deep. The iPhone-challenging visual voicemail, for instance, ain't quite live. Plus, it locked up when I was messing around with the music store, and needed a hard reset for the more money shot voice command features, which still didn't quite work (or finding a McDonald's is just too much). And the web browser doesn't, um, touch mobile Safari, at least not in its present state.

Hands On HTC Touch Dual (Nice, but Still WinMo)

HTC's Touch Dual is now officially headed to US markets, and after a brief hands-on with it, I'm a fan of the hardware. But at the end of the day, it's still a WinMo phone. The phone pairs the form factor of the HTC Touch with a slide-out SureType keyboard in a (relatively) light and thin package. And though they gave it the TouchFLO interface and WIndows Mobile 6.1 Professional, it only covers up WinMo's shortcomings to an extent.

Hands On Windows Mobile 6.1 (Update is Skin Deep)

Windows 6.1 is officially out, and after a hands on with the standard and professional versions of the refreshed OS, I'm still not sold on it. There's no denying the redesigned home screen is beautiful, and easily takes you to emails, texts and events for the day. But it still doesn't make up for the laggy nature of the OS and the menu surfing required to perform simple tasks.

Nokia's N-Gage Cellphone Gaming Platform Is Up and Running

The official announcement won't be until next Monday, but the N-Gage blog just let everyone know that their cellphone gaming platform went live today. If you've got an N81, N81 8GB, N82, N95 or N95 8GB, you can go download and install the service now (available on both Mac and PC). If you've got an N73, N93i and N93, you'll have to wait a bit for support. Here's our hands-on of it at Mobile World Congress. In short, it's like Xbox Live for your phone. [N-Gage Download]

Griffin ClearBoost iPhone Case Reviewed (Verdict: Who Do You Believe?)

Griffin's new ClearBoost case promises protection and a cellular signal boost for the iPhone, but does it deliver on those promises? Well, that would depend on who you believe. iLounge claims that the signal boost works, but not under the weakest signal conditions. Crunchgear, on the other hand, called the signal booster "one of the greatest scams perpetrated on mankind since the Kennedy assassination." Hmm...strong words. However, both agreed that the case itself was decent, so at least you have that for your $30. UPDATE: It appears that Crunchgear's review was done using a hacked iPhone on T-Mobile, which would account for the problems. Griffin tells us the ClearBoost was made for AT&T's network.

Question of the Day: Which Cellphone Style Do You Prefer?

With CTIA 2008 winding down, we have been inundated with phones of all shapes and sizes. Some cellphone styles are more popular than others, but each has its own distinct advantages and disadvantages. That having been said, which of the following cellphone styles do you prefer?

Motorola's Smart Rider Car Phone: Just In Case You Were Expecting a Call From 1992

An FCC leak back in February tipped us off to the fact that Motorola was prepping a car phone, but it wasn't until today that the details were announced. However, unlike the car phones of yesteryear, the Smart Rider features GPS navigation, voice activation and Bluetooth. But here is the kicker—you can use it outside of your car, which basically makes it just another cellphone. Oh those Motorola execs with their marketing trickery! No wonder you guys are kicking so much ass. Available starting in June. Press release after the break.

Crutch Chair Design Transforms for Impromptu Sitting

Ever broken a leg? Know how much hassle it is to stumble around in crutches? Designer Yong-Rok Kim's Crutch Chair is intended to be a partial solution to the problem of knackering yourself out when walking like this. The two halves of his design snap together to form a neat seat-like thing so you can take the weight off your injury. Seems a darn sensible idea. With just one concern: that connection. Will you break your other leg when it gives way as you sit? Death by crutch it shall be! It's just a concept— we imagine it'd be boring gray or "medical pink" if it were ever made real.

Pwnage iPhone Unlocking and Hacking Tool Now Available, Works Great

After some delays, the iPhone Pwnage tool—which is used to flash your iPhone with hacked firmware that will allow you to run any application, use it unlocked in any compatible cellphone network, and basically do whatever you want do to with it, is now available for download. I have been testing this and previous versions for a few weeks now and it works well, but you will need a hacked version of the iPhone firmware to try it.
